BATS ROCK! TOUR
THIS INITIATIVE IS A PART OF KNG's #NATURALLYKETTERING SCHEME.
Bats Rock is Kettering Nature Group's programme of free, guided evening bat walks, helping local people discover the bats living in and around Kettering.
The walks take place during the summer months, when bats are active, and give people the opportunity to see and hear these remarkable animals using bat detectors. Each walk is led by KNG, combining the experience of being out after dark with information about bat ecology, the habitats bats depend on and the challenges they face.
Bats Rock was created by KNG to make Kettering's bats accessible to the wider community and to show people that fascinating wildlife can be found right on their doorstep.
KNG has now delivered more than 80 Bats Rock walks, engaging over 1,000 people.
The programme is about more than counting bats. It creates opportunities for people to experience local nature for themselves, develop an understanding of the wildlife around them and become more connected to the places where they live.
Bats Rock is a simple idea, but it demonstrates what KNG does: identify an opportunity, turn it into a practical community programme and make it happen on the ground.
